How Do You Know If You’re Truly Awake?

How Do You Know If You're Truly Awake?

Recently, I found myself asking a strange but honest question: How do I know if I am truly awake?

At first, the question sounded like self-doubt. But beneath it was something else entirely—an intuitive nudge. A sense that I was brushing up against the edges of reality as we’ve been taught to see it, and sensing that something much deeper is going on.

I’ve spent decades doing the deep, often difficult work of healing old traumas, restoring my health, and reclaiming my intuition. With each step, I’ve unraveled limiting beliefs that once held me captive and gradually learned to see through the illusions that clouded my vision. It’s been a journey of awakening—sometimes painful, often challenging—but ultimately freeing.

But still, the question kept tapping me on the shoulder—not to challenge my awakening, but to stretch it. To invite me into an even deeper level of awareness

This deeper level brings more peace—but also more sensitivity

Many people find that as they awaken further, their nervous system becomes more sensitive to dissonance—energy, dishonesty, noise, and even clutter.

I’ve always been sensitive, but lately, that sensitivity has intensified, becoming more urgent and profound.

With this deeper awareness comes a heightened attunement to everything around me.

Loud environments feel even louder, shallow conversations more empty and meaningless, and it’s becoming more painful to watch those still asleep. This awakening has sparked a deep need for grounding and peace—a way to center myself amid the overwhelming noise. Not because I’m fragile, but because my system is learning to reject anything that isn’t aligned with truth.

Let’s explore what it means to be awake—and why it’s not a finish line, but a lifelong unfolding.

There’s a difference between being conscious and being awake.

Being conscious means you’re alert, functioning, and aware of your surroundings and perhaps even making “healthy” mind-body-spirit choices. You’re doing the work, reading the books, seeking guidance, and showing up for your healing. You’re awake enough to realize you were, at one time, asleep.

But being truly awake is something far deeper.

It’s not just mental awareness—it’s soul-level remembrance.

When you’re awake:

  • You question what you’ve been taught about who you are and what’s possible.
  • You view everything with discernment, knowing you don’t have all the answers.
  • You see your triggers as messengers.
  • You recognize the shift when you’re out of alignment.
  • You stop living reactively—and start living intentionally.
  • You know there’s a deeper wisdom at play, even in life’s hardest moments.

Being conscious means your eyes are open.
Being awake means your heart, mind, and soul are too.

So, how do you know if you’re truly awake?

Awakening often feels like standing alone in a wide, wild landscape—uncertain, exposed, yet somehow more alive than ever. The world looks different from this vantage point. You realize how small you are in the grand design, but also how deeply connected you’ve become to the truth pulsing beneath it all. It’s quiet out here, and sometimes lonely. But it’s real.

Here are a few signs I see often—in my clients, in myself, and in this growing wave of awakened souls:

  • You no longer blindly accept what “they” say—whether it’s culture, media, or authority.
  • You crave truth more than comfort.
  • You’re becoming more sensitive to energy—your own and others’.
  • You’ve outgrown people, places, and patterns you used to tolerate.
  • You feel drawn to something more meaningful—such as healing old wounds, living with purpose, or making a difference in the lives of others.
  • You’re reigniting your intuition and trusting your gut over groupthink.
  • You may feel a little crazy at times… or as though you no longer “fit in.”

If this sounds familiar, you’re not broken. You’re waking up.

And yes—awakening can be disorienting. Old identities fall away. Relationships shift. Emotions rise. You question everything. But that’s because something new is being born: your truest self.

What Now?

If you’re in this space, be gentle with yourself.

  • Unlearning takes energy.
  • Healing takes courage.
  • Awakening takes trust.

You’re not crazy. You’re awakening. And it’s not about where you are on the journey—it’s that you are on the journey. Your timing is perfect.

And the good news? You don’t have to walk it alone.

Here’s to your continued courage and the unfolding of your joyful journey!
